It is with great joy that I welcome the new Knights of Columbus Council of the Most Holy Trinity. A few months ago, when I thought of how to engage the men in our parish and their families, it seemed farfetched that we could come to this day. But here we are, inaugurating a new Council for Holy Trinity and St. John’s parishes. I have come to learn that when Jesus Christ sends us on a mission, he always has a plan for us.
You new Knights are a special part of Jesus’ plan of evangelization for our parish community. I want to personally thank each one of you for saying “Yes” to his invitation. I cannot think of anything more fulfilling than witnessing to Christ.
The role of a Knight is to serve according to the mind of Jesus Christ, our Savior, who came “not be served but to serve and to give his life as ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). As a Knight, you are called to fearlessly serve for the good of your brothers and sisters in Christ (the people of God), the good of the universal Church and our local parish, and for the good of your fellow brother Knights. You are called to promote the Catholic identity, to promote faith and be an example to your family and other families, to be a beacon of light in our society and to do all these with profound love and conviction.
Dear brothers, this is a selfless undertaking that mirrors the Cross. You will always have my support and that of your brother Knights, for together we witness to the fact that our search for God is a journey on which we make the most progress when we walk it with others and with intention.
It is my prayer and hope that you never lack joy as you serve as a Knight.
I entrust you to the care, patronage and Immaculate Heart of the Mother of God, Mary Most Holy, who is full of grace. In times of tribulation always turn to Mary, for as the Mother of God, she never despises the petitions of the children of God.
May the grace and peace of Christ, Our Savior, be with you.
Vivat Jesus,
Fr. Anthony Ahamefule
Parish Priest
Oregon State Chaplian
