as presented (MSP: Mary/Phil).
- Religious Education & Youth
Outreach: Dusty said the children’s classes were coming along fine, as
long as the children make it to church on Sunday. Rolando explained that
the children in the classes were motivated and that much depends on their
- Budget & Finance: Ken said we
are in the black a little over $2000. The church has about $26,272 in the
bank, but he said we will be needing some of that soon for upcoming church
- Altar Society/Women’s Guild: Stephanie
said the Guild was doing fine. Sharon said she would be taking care of
some of the needs of the altar, as they arise.
- Publicity: Sherry reported about
past and current publicity. Dusty suggested we need another volunteer to
take turns answering the church cell phone (in addition to the two
families who have been handing it back and forth over the past few years).
Sherry said she would put a request for volunteers in the church bulletin.
- Liturgy: Rolando mentioned that
Holy Week is coming up soon. It was suggested that we need someone else to
coordinate those serving each week in the liturgy while Viv is
recuperating from surgery. Stephanie said she will talk to Viv about the
job and see if she could help.
Mary volunteered to help take communion to the housebound.
- Maintenance: Ken said he will be
replacing some of the outside light bulbs that have burned out. He
explained that the south side of the church building is deteriorating. He
said we need to replace the siding and then paint it and the project would
cost $5000-$6000 and needs to be done by this summer. Marvin said he will
be planting grass in the area that has recently been cleared of brush on
the front side of the church property.
- Community Outreach: Sherry gave a report on the four
outreach programs the church was involved in for Christmas: Shoe boxes filled
with gifts for the poor, bell ringing for the Salvation Army, Christmas
caroling in front of Rays and hosting the holiday food box distribution
for Common Good…all of which went very well. She discussed the need to
limit the different kind of vouchers we give out in a year to one per
person, so that some do not take advantage of our charity and also so we
can meet our budget that the Salvation Army has given us for the year. She
showed a list of vouchers distributed in the past 12 months, which identifies
people in the community who repeatedly ask for them. The list will be kept in the kitchen
cupboard with the outreach folder and with those answering the church cell
phone and distributing vouchers. The Open Hearth Dinner, which is funded by Rotary, was discussed. St.
John’s has volunteered to be in charge of the dinner to be held on March 6th
and Mary Jane LaBelle is organizing our efforts.
- Father Patrick said he has talked to
Deacon Rick and he is going to cut back in his participation in the
liturgy, because of his recent stroke.
- The Stations of the Cross and soup
suppers were discussed and Father asked us to continue the tradition again
- Father reported that Archbishop Vlazny
is submitting his resignation on Feb. 22nd. He will serve as
Apostolic Administrator for our diocese for another 6 months until the
Pope appoints a new Archbishop and he is ready to take over the job.
Allison suggested we prepare a “spiritual bouquet” as a gift for the
Archbishop, as Holy Trinity is doing.
- Mardi Gras celebration at Holy Trinity: will be held on Tuesday at 6pm and
Allison invited us to join them.
- Bulletin: Allison asked people to send articles about St. John’s to her for
the bulletin as well as putting paid advertisements about our businesses
in it to help support its publication.
- Father Chun is coming to Holy Trinity on Feb. 27th – 29th
to put on a program about “Living the Eucharist”.
- Copyright on Songs: Ken asked about the sources of the
songs sung at St. John’s. Rolando said all the music comes from our church
press for the Archdiocese and there are no copyright problems.
- Movies: Dusty asked about showing more movies at church. Rolando suggested
“Prince of Egypt”, an animated movie about Moses and asked if someone else
could follow up on it.
- Gift Shop: Dusty said they are starting to order more merchandise and that
they did well on their sale after Christmas. He said they will be taking
orders for certain items.
- New Officers for PAC: Marvin asked about appointing new
officers for PAC for the coming year. Ken said it is yet to be determined
and they are working on it.
Next PAC meeting: Will be held on Thursday, April 19th, 2012 at the church. Sherry suggested that we start
our potluck dinner at 5:30pm so we can begin the meeting by 6pm (MSP:Ken/Stephanie).

The meeting was
adjourned at 7:10 pm.
