Minutes: The minutes of the last meeting, on February 16th, 2012, were accepted as presented (MSP: Ken/Phil).

Reports:

  1. Religious Education & Youth Outreach: Dusty said Abby & Wiley will have their Reconciliation on May 26th at Holy Trinity and on Sunday, May 27th will have their First Communion at St. John’s with a celebration following. Lynda Dietel has purchased gifts, from the church, to be given to them. Rolando said that Cody, Craig & Charles are coming to Catechism Classes on Wednesdays. Taylor will receive his Sacrament of Confirmation on April 21st in North Bend and the group agreed a celebration cake would be appropriate after Mass on Sunday, April 22nd at St. John’s. Father said we may hold a Sacrament of Marriage on May 27th for Kimberly & Jason Haire.
  2. Budget & Finance: Ken said from July 2011 to April 19th, 2012, after our expenses, we have $2461 in the bank. Our total assets are approximately $26,570. It was announced later that St. John’s made our quota of donations to the Capital Campaign Fund for the Archdiocese. By reaching our goal, the church will eventually get back 25% of that amount and 100% of any donations given beyond that.
  3. Altar Society/Women’s Guild: Priscilla apologized for forgetting to bring soup for a Soup Supper. Mother’s Day will be May 13th and suggestions were made to buy and present a rose to all the ladies. Dusty said if anyone wants to make a special order for Christmas they should let Lynda Dietel know. Priscilla said the Rummage Sale will be held in August and the date will be announced later. She said she had a storage unit ready to hold donations.
  4. Publicity: Sherry said she had put up flyers around town about our Holy Week Schedule.  She mentioned she had recently printed another 12 Church Phone Directories.
  5. Liturgy: Rolando said our liturgy for Easter was well received especially by new people to the church who appreciated our singing and the friendly manner of the church members. Pentecost décor was discussed.
  6. Maintenance: Ken said most of the lights inside the church are working, but there are still problems with the outside lights. Three groups of stand-alone lights in front of the church are out and he is not sure of the cause yet and will look into solving the problem. The outdoor siding on the south side of the church is damaged and needs repair. Ken, Phil & Marvin will get together to figure out what needs to be done. Marvin said we will get our lawn planted, in front of the south side of the property, as soon as it stops raining.
  7. Community Outreach: Sherry said she has distributed around the community the yearly updated handout listing Public Assistance Available in Port Orford and pointed out a few changes from last year.  It was suggested we give a copy of our list of people in who have repeatedly asked us for vouchers to First Community Church, since they are now also giving out food vouchers to Ray’s Market.

Pastor’s Report:

  • Father Patrick mentioned the Bishop’s Conference in Rome and the book they put out about the New Evangelization. He said a version of this book, which was written for people in the U.S., will be printed and distributed soon.
  • Holy Week – Father said he was very pleased with all the liturgies held during the week and in the weeks leading up to them, such as our Stations of the Cross & Soup Suppers.
  • Father explained to the group that he has excused Deacon Rick from serving on the altar because of his health problems.

Topics for Discussion: There were no topics brought up.

Next PAC meeting: Will be held on Thursday, June 14th, 2012 at the church. Our potluck dinner will start at 5:30pm so we can begin the meeting by 6pm or earlier.
