Holy Trinity Catholic Church - Bandon, OR

    St. John the Baptist Catholic Mission - Port Orford, OR   




The meeting was held at 6pm at the church and was called to order at 6:30pm following a fantastic potluck Mexican dinner. Ken Brewer introduced our new Chairperson: Marvin Zuber and new Vice Chair: Sarah Thurow.


Present were: Marvin Zuber: Chair; Sarah Thurow: Vice Chair; Sherry Johnson: Secretary; Father Michael Patrick: Pastor; Rick Williams: Deacon; Ken Brewer: Budget & Finance; Mary Colozzi, Rolando Rodriguez, Priscilla Lang, Stephanie Brewer, Millie Haas, Sharon Zuber, Gary & Lynda Dietel, Colleen Gryzana, Rosie Hajek, Todd Cook, and Viv Williams.


Minutes: The minutes of the November 18th, 2010 meeting were accepted as presented (MSP: Ken/Rolando).



  1. Religious Education & Youth Outreach: Rick said at Easter, the two McLean girls, Jaidan & Alyssa, will be Baptized, receive First Communion and Confirmation at St. Johns. Father explained that because of their mature age, they would celebrate the Right of Election at Holy Redeemer in North Bend before the ceremonies at St. John’s.

Viv asked the members of St. John’s to please remember to address Rick Williams as Deacon Rick.

  1. Budget & Finance: Ken said we were doing very well and as of the end of January we were $2600 in the black. We also have a reserve in the bank of $23,146.
  2. Altar Society/Women’s Guild: Priscilla said they will do a Christmas Bazaar again before next Christmas and are planning a Mother’s Day Raffle.

Lynda Dietel gave the Treasurer’s report: The Women’s Guild/Altar Society have a total of $6,471 in the bank, divided in various sub accounts.

Rolando discussed the traditional duties of the Altar Society.

  1. Publicity: Viv said the church had a good write up and advertising at Christmas time.

Sherry mentioned that the Women’s Guild was thanked for bringing desserts to the Soup Kitchen in a letter in this week’s Port Orford Today. She said the next Soup Kitchen would be on Feb. 22nd and they would be grateful for our continued contributions of desserts.

  1. Liturgy: Rolando said Ash Wednesday will be on March 9th and reviewed the other happenings in the church calendar for March.

He said the members of our church have been invited to join in the celebration of Mardi Gras at the Lutheran Church on March 8th at 6pm.

  1. Maintenance:
  • ·        Church Ceiling(MSP: Sarah/Viv).
  • ·        Room for Father’s Ministry: Father said he needs a room in St. John’s church for his ministry and a discussion followed how we could utilize the various rooms in order to accomplish this.
  • ·        Gift Shop Shelves(MSP:Viv/Sarah).
  • ·        Front Parking Lot
  • ·        Decorative Light Fixtures(MSP:Sarah/Sharon).
  • ·        Christmas Lights


  1. Community Outreach: Sherry gave a report on the number of food vouchers and bus passes given out during January and said that the number given out in February, so far, is lower.

It was mentioned that as part of our outreach to the community, we are offering our church space for blood drives by the Red Cross and meetings for the Rotary Community Garden project.


Pastor’s Report:

Father Patrick told the group that he will soon be giving out a schedule for the Stations of the Cross during Lent and for Holy Week. 

He discussed the building project being contemplated by Holy Trinity Church and told the group that he thinks they will build a new church.


Old Business: There was none.


New Business:

  • Children’s Choir: Rolando suggested starting a children’s choir.
  • Summer Bible Study: Colleen asked if we could offer Summer Bible Study classes. Viv felt we should think about it for next year and contact Sharon Hennick, who runs the Summer Bible Studies at Holy Trinity, for her suggestions and an idea of what it would involve.
  • South Side of Church: Marvin said we should replant the lawn in front of the church on the south side. He will take care of organizing it. A discussion followed about various uses for the property on the south side of the church.
  • Holy Relic: The holy relic under the altar was brought up to see if anyone knew what is was and how we could find out.
  • Kitchen Clean Up: Rosie suggested that the person who volunteers to bring goodies on Sunday also help clean up the kitchen afterwards.


Next PAC meeting: Will be held on Thursday, April 7th, 2011 at 6pm at church. It was suggested we have a potluck made up of appetizers. Sharon was asked to give the closing prayer at the April meeting.
