Opening Prayer: was given by Father Patrick.

Minutes: The minutes of the last meeting, on April 7th, 2011, were accepted as presented (MSP: Mary/Sarah).

  1. Religious Education & Youth Outreach: Rick reported that we have two possible candidates for confirmation. He also said we will need a formal liturgy training program before Advent.
  2. Budget & Finance: Ken said we are coming to the end of the fiscal year. We are $1300 in the black and have $22,500 in the bank.
  3. Altar Society/Women’s Guild:

Lynda said the group met on Sunday after Mass. She mentioned her difficulties with the bill from Ray’s Market, since they don’t provide a detailed account of each charge.

She gave a review of their checking and savings accounts and asked which church group was responsible for the expense of cleaning the vestments. A discussion followed about what items could be taken home and washed and what needed the occasional dry cleaning. It was moved that the PAC treasury be responsible for the expense of dry cleaning of the vestments (MSP: Sarah/Carol).

Lynda brought up the refreshments offered to the younger children during the gathering time after Mass and said she had recently purchased boxed juice and prepackaged bags of cookies for the young children which the Women’s Guild hopes will be given out and supervised by the older girls, Jaidan and Alyssa.

  1. Maintenance:

Ken said the sinks in the two bathrooms have been replaced.

Illustrations of different designs of outdoor lighting to replace the current lights in the front of the church was handed out to the group. He said the Zuber family has offered to pay for the new lights.

Ken reported that the outdoor gable siding on the eastern side of the church was in need of replacing.

  1. Publicity: Sherry gave a report on the publicity over the last several months. She noted she had sent an article and photo to the Catholic Sentinel about our newly remodeled gift shop, which they published. Lynda said she had received a call from someone in Eugene who had read the article and was interested in making a purchase.
  2. Liturgy:

Rolando reviewed the liturgies coming up and said we will need a workshop for our altar servers regarding our revised missal.

He discussed the idea of starting a Liturgy of the Hours program of daily prayers. He said instead if purchasing the books for $180 that are necessary, the programs can be downloaded free to a laptop computer and then shown by a digital projector onto a screen.  He handed out a sheet describing the digital projector and screen that could be purchased for the church at Staples for about $707 and described other uses for the projector and screen in the future. Sarah suggested we look at all the things that we are going to need and want for the church in the future and then prioritize them. It was suggested that we try first to get donations to purchase the projector and screen from members of the congregation. Marvin asked Rolando to make a presentation to the church about the need for this. It was suggested that he and Sherry also make up a letter to be distributed in the church bulletin and then we cold hold a second collection for it in the future.

Allison invited members of St. John’s to Holy Trinity for a barbeque being held for Altar Servers on Wednesday, July 13th at 5pm.

  1. Community Outreach: Sherry handed out a report listing all the many Outreach Programs that St. John’s is currently involved in. Allison said she would like to publish the list in the church bulletin.

Pastor’s Report:

Father Patrick told the group that Ben Corazza is back living at his home (after spending many months in nursing homes). He said Mrs. Corazza would like to become a member of the Catholic Church and possibly Ben’s daughter too. Father said the McLean’s son, Taylor, might also want to be confirmed.

Father mentioned that Holy Week went very well in the Parish.

A Roman missal, the prayer book for the altar, has been ordered for St. John’s and will cost about $140. A discussion followed whether the Altar Society should be responsible for purchasing it. Father said he would discuss this with the Altar Society.

Father reported that an auditor came from the Archdiocese and that everything is in order with our financial books.

Topics for Discussion:

  • Stained Glass Windows: Dusty said he thought the fund raising for the digital projector and screen should come first and then the stained glass windows could be brought up to the church for consideration later.
  • Job Replacements: Ken said he would like someone else to coordinate the commentator announcements as well as the prayers for the faithful for each Sunday Mass. He said he also wouldn’t be able to continue as an altar server. Father said he would seek replacements for him.
  • Church Picnic: Marvin asked the group if they would like to have another church picnic at his house this summer. After an enthusiastic response, a date was set for Sunday, August 28th.

Next PAC meeting: Will be held on Thursday, August 25th, 2011 at 6pm at church.

Closing Prayer: was lead by Father Patrick.

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:28 pm.
